Sadly I work at a drug treatment center. I've never worked with people like this. One of the therapists and two of the case managers and two of the case managers are very toxic. During meetings they all cuddle up to each other and send text to each other and you wonder if they're talking about you or what because why should it be private and they actually put their hands over their mouths while they're whispering. They speak to me in a couple of the mental health text very condescendingly. Sadly I have to work very closely with them because I am part of the treatment team as one of the other case managers. I am fairly new and the oldest. I had subpar training. I know how to work with the clients and connect them to resources I'm very good at that. But the administrative stuff related to the facility is something that I needed more training and a manual to follow and wasn't given either. The staff seem to buy into the whole methodology of the facility and I see now it's run like a cult. But I decided to do some self-reflection recently and thought maybe I'm just judging the place because of a few toxic people. then the director sent me some reading material on the concept of a therapeutic community and how their facility is run right off the bat in the beginning it mentions Scion the first therapeutic community. I looked into sign on and it was a cult that was closed down in the 60s due to abuse

It's true that New York culture is very different from the West Coast. New Yorkers are often considered rude yet they often will be truthful and will help you. Conversely, someone from tthe West Coast. are often very friendly and polite but do not actually do anything to help you.

This video triggered me. I just came out of a toxic work environment where the asshole coworker was actually a narcissist. They hid behind good mannerism towards others, and so I suffered alone as a target of their asshole behavior. That is next level. I am grateful for this video since it highlights the effects such people can have on the wellbeing of the targeted worker. It still plays out like trauma in my head. No one could bring that bully to account for what they did to me. I left and that was the biggest come back since that person was hiding behind my hard work and that is how her salary got paid. Now that person actually has to work for it, and has a hell of a time putting forth that effort. So the lesson that I learnt was not to try change things too much. Once you realize people can't help nor care to change the environment for the better, just leave for a better opportunity. At the very least you need to distance yourself for you mental wellbeing. There is always something bigger or better out there. Such people are their own demise.
